"A Lover"
"Jim . . ." I reached over and felt covers. It was dark except for the green glow. I looked over at the clock. It displayed 2:00 am. I whispered, "Jim," and listened.
"Yes, Karen?" It came from across the room. "Did I wake you?"
"No . . ." The sleepiness faded. "What are you doing up?"
"Getting ready for work."
"You go to work this early?"
"This is my last week on this shift."
"This probably means I won't see you until I get back."
His body moved through the darkness onto the bed. He kissed me on the lips, "Until you get back?"
"Yes, I have to travel to San Francisco."
"San Francisco? Karen, may I ask you a question?"
I nodded, hoping he could see my head in the dim wash of green.
"Are you working on the Korea slave trade?"
"Yes."
He was silent for a moment.
"Make love to me again."
He kissed me, kissed me hard. "Be careful . . ."
I whispered, "Why?"
"Because I love you."
"Oh Jim, hold me." He did. "I find you very attractive also. If I could stay here I would, but like you I have a job to do. Yours keeps you here, mines keeps me abroad."
"I've never met anyone like you."
I placed my hand on him, "I've never made love to anyone like you."
I sensed the corners of his mouth curl up. He moved the covers off me. The cool air bit. His body was warm, almost hot.
"When will you be back?" He said between little kisses on my stomach.
"I don't know. It depends on a clue or lead I get . . .oh." I moaned. Damn he was sensitive and responsive . . ." I might have to leave the country . . .oh . . .that feels so good . . . Are you listening to me?"
He lifted his head up for a moment, "no, but keep talking."
I stopped and enjoyed my lover. This was a night to remember.
